Cleveland Browns trade for Eagles CB Sheldon Brown and LB Chris Gocong | cleveland.com

The Cleveland Browns have continued their quest to building a solid team by completing a trade for Cornerback Sheldon Brown and Linebacker Chris Cocong. Both Brown and Cocong played for the Philadelphia Eagles last season and fill in gaps that were on the Browns defense last season. The Browns sent Linebacker Alex Hall and two draft picks to the Eagles as their part of the deal.

The Browns had gaps in the secondary last season and could barely protect against long passes. With a mediocre Eric Wright and Brandon McDonald in the secondary last season, opposing teams could easily go deep on the Browns and get an early lead. With McDonald gone and Brown coming in, it’s clear the Browns want to prevent the deep ball this season and improve the secondary.

With Kamerion Wimbley gone, the Browns managed to fill that gap by bringing in Cocong. Wimbley was inconsistent the last couple of seasons while Cocong has proven to play well on the field and be a good leader off the field as well. The Browns defense needs leadership and Cocong will bring that with him.
