Cavaliers Stop the Magic to Win 13th Game in a Row

The Cleveland Cavaliers extended their win streak to 13 games Thursday night as they defeated the Orlando Magic 115-106 at Quicken Loans Arena. With the win, the Cavaliers maintain the best record in the NBA.

Cavaliers guard Lebron James picked up where he left off on November 11th against the Magic by terrorizing Orlando inside the paint and at the free throw line for 32 points. Teammate JJ Hickson, who started off the game with a couple of fade away jumpers and dunks, finished the night with 20 points and Anderson Varejao had 16 points off the bench.

The Cavaliers managed to end the first quarter leading 37-23 but Orlando managed to come back with penetration inside by Dwight Howard and Vince Carter. Carter was not afraid to penetrate inside and tried to draw fouls early on and teammate Rahard Lewis helped get the job done behind the three point arc and at the free throw line to help the Magic take the lead by the third quarter.

With the home crowd behind them, the Cavaliers managed to regain the lead in the fourth quarter after an alley-oop dunk from Lebron James to Shaquille O’Neal put Cleveland up 98-96.

Minutes later, James would drive to the lane for a layup to give the Cavaliers a 100-96 lead. A three pointer by Delonte West and layups by James and O’Neal would give the Cavaliers the comfort they needed to hold on for the 115-106 victory.

With the victory, the Cleveland Cavaliers maintain the best record in the NBA and have proven they could play amongst the NBA’s best. The team went from not being able to beat Orlando in the Eastern Conference Finals last year to defeating them once in Florida this season and getting the victory at home on Thursday night. The team did what they had to regain the lead and prevented the Magic from gaining the momentum for too long. This Cavaliers team will continue to soar beyond the All-Star Break and will be a force to reckon with down the stretch.
