Browns release WR Stallworth – NFL – Yahoo! Sports

To little surprise, the Cleveland Browns have officially terminated Donte Stallworth’s contract. Stallworth, who was convicted of DUI manslaughter almost a year ago, was recently reinstated by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

In one season with the Browns, Stallworth only caught 17 passes and only had one touchdown. Stallworth battled injuries and rarely played.

Releasing Stallworth from his contract is consistent with the direction the Browns want to go in. Head Coach Eric Mangini has weeded out other troubled players in the past and has made it clear he does not want those types of distractions in the locker room. The team proved they could win without Stallworth in the lineup and is sending a statement that they are moving on from the troubled wide receiver.
